Stop Getting Ghosted
If you feel like you’re constantly chasing people after a sales conversation, you’re not alone. A lot of small business owners end up sending follow-up messages that get ignored, or leaving things open and hoping the client comes back to them. It’s frustrating and it creates a lot of unnecessary uncertainty.
The good news is that this is usually very fixable.
Most people assume they need a better follow-up strategy, but the truth is that the problem usually starts much earlier in the conversation. If you’re not agreeing clear next steps before the meeting ends, you leave things vague and open-ended. That’s when ghosting tends to happen. It’s not that people are deliberately ignoring you, it’s that nobody’s very clear on what’s supposed to happen next.
The first step is to stay in control during the conversation. You should always leave knowing exactly what happens next. “I’ll think about it” is not a next step. Instead, agree something specific like when you’ll speak again or what needs to happen in between.
Secondly, when someone says they need time to think, don’t assume it’s a no. In most cases, it’s genuine (I bet you’ve said it yourself lots of times!) The key is to turn that into a clear next step so you’re not left guessing.
Finally, build a simple follow-up process for those who aren’t ready yet. Keep in touch regularly, give yourself a reason to reach out, and stay consistent until you get a clear yes or no.
