Stick To The Plan
Creating a business growth plan is one thing. Actually sticking to it when you’re running a busy business is something else entirely isn’t it?
You can leave a planning session feeling completely committed to your priorities, then Monday morning arrives. Clients need things. Your inbox fills up. Something urgent crops up. And gradually the plan gets pushed further down the list until it eventually disappears into a drawer or sits forgotten somewhere on your laptop.
So how do you make sure this plan is different?
Firstly, don’t try to tackle your entire growth plan at once. Decide what genuinely needs to move forward over the next 90 days and create a manageable mix of bigger, meatier priorities and some quicker wins. One of my best tips is to also look for the handful of actions that will create flow. These are the things that, once you’ve done them, will make lots of other activities easier, quicker or smoother.
Then you need to make the plan part of how you actually run your business. Not an add-on that you’ll get round to when you magically have that free day that never actually materialises!
I can promise that the actions on your growth plan won’t happen unless you have clear time blocked out in your diary to work on them. Hope is not a growth strategy!
Keep your plan somewhere visible. Then decide how you’ll measure progress, when you’ll review it and who will hold you accountable for doing what you’ve said you’ll do.
Because creating the plan isn’t the finish line. The real skill is keeping it alive for the next 90 days.
In this week’s Business Tips video, I share some practical ways to turn your growth plan into something you actually implement rather than another document you create with great intentions and then quietly forget about.
